The Reds have paid 14 million euros for the services of the 27-year-old midfielder, who has won four titles with Porto and been capped 38 times by Portugal, including in all four of his country's games in this summer's World Cup.

Siyam & Qiyam Ramadhan

Liverpool - In Depth Analysis

On the pitch
Goalkeeper
Pepe Reina is arguably the very best custodian the league currently has to offer.

Defenders
Carragher is fading as a defensive force, and neither Agger nor Skrtel are of the highest quality. Johnson solid but not elite, either.
Midfielders
Aquilani return and Mascherano stay give midfield real quality. Gerrard seems motivated for a memorable season.

Attack
Torres might be the finest player in the league. Cole and Jovanovic provide new and improved support.

Manager
Roy Hodgson finally has himself another big job. But can he impress his methods on a group of bigger egos?

Off the pitch
Hunger
With Benitez departed and Roy Hodgson in place, everyone at the club should be working with the sole goal of bringing Liverpool back to their rightful place in English football.

Leaders
Carragher and Gerrard give the side a real sense of purpose and direction, and where they go the others will tend to follow.

Squad Depth
A problem last season, off-season free transfers and youth acquisitions have plugged a number of gaps. But an injury to Fernando Torres would still be disastrous.

Pressure
Expectations are lower to some extent this season, as fans realise the club is struggling in light of the current ownership situation. If anything, players might be slightly freer to express themselves after last season's disaster.

Experience
Squad not manifestly different from group that finished second the season before last. They know what it takes to get back to that level.
Verdict
First choice eleven — and a handful of substitutes — is as good as any of their rivals for Champions League football. But an injury to Fernando Torres, despite David Ngog's gradual emergence, would really hit the club hard, and with that and a new manager to bed in it seems unlikely the club can immediately challenge for the title. With the Spaniard's injury record, even fourth might be a bridge too far in this rebuilding campaign.

Liverpool - Home Grown Quotas

Tasked with regenerating Liverpool's fortunes following a disappointing last campaign, new manager Roy Hodgson's immediate task fell into two areas - convincing his best players to stay, and swelling the Anfield club's rather sorry number of home-grown players.

He started with a bang on both fronts, bringing England international Joe Cole into the club on a free and then persuading Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres to commit their immediate futures to the club.

However, Hodgson is still left with a squad very top-heavy with foreign players. Former Charlton star Jonjo Shelvey, while English, is a 'freebie' as he is under-21, while Hodgson's attempts to bring Luke Young to the club failed.

The re-signing of Fabio Aurelio and captures of Danny Wilson from Rangers and Christian Poulsen from Juventus only buoy an already large foreign contingent too - though Javier Mascherano looks set to leave for Inter Milan.

A total of just four senior home-grown players tells its own tale of previous manager Rafael Benitez's transfer policy - though it could at least provoke a spate of promotions from the youth ranks and provide a number of Anfield youngsters with a rare chance to impress.

That is unless one of the hive of interested parties reported to be looking at buying the club proves successful, in which case a late-window transfer rush could ensue.

NON-HOME-GROWN: Daniel Agger, Alberto Aquilani, Fabio Aurelio, Ryan Babel, Diego Cavalieri, Nabil El Zhar, Milan Jovanovic, Dirk Kuyt, Sotiros Kyrgiakos, Lucas, Javier Mascherano, Damien Plessis, Christian Poulsen, Pepe Reina, Maxi Rodriguez, Martin Skrtel, Fernando Torres.

SENIOR HOME-GROWN: Jamie Carragher, Joe Cole, Steven Gerrard, Glen Johnson.

SELECTED UNDER-21s: Daniel Ayala, Laurie Dalla Valle, Peter Gulacsi, Emiliano Insua, Steven Irwin, Martin Kelly, Krisztian Nemeth, David Ngog, Jonjo Shelvey, Jay Spearing, Danny Wilson.

POTENTIAL TARGETS: Maynor Figueroa, Paul Konchesky, Loic Remy.

VERDICT: In need of some more home comforts.

Personality Test : Episode I

Your view on yourself:
Other people find you very interesting, but you are really hiding your true self. Your friends love you because you are a good listener. They'll probably still love you if you learn to be yourself with them.

The type of girlfriend you are looking for:
You are not looking merely for a girlfriend - you are looking for your life partner. Perhaps you should be more open-minded about who you spend time with. The person you are looking for might hide their charm under their exterior.

Your readiness to commit to a relationship:
You are ready to commit as soon as you meet the right person. And you believe you will pretty much know as soon as you might that person.

The seriousness of your love:
You are very serious about relationships and aren't interested in wasting time with people you don't really like. If you meet the right person, you will fall deeply and beautifully in love.

Your views on education
Education is very important in life. You want to study hard and learn as much as you can.

The right job for you:
You're a practical person and will choose a secure job with a steady income. Knowing what you like to do is important. Find a regular job doing just that and you'll be set for life.

How do you view success:
You are confident that you will be successful in your chosen career and nothing will stop you from trying.

What are you most afraid of:
You are concerned about your image and the way others see you. This means that you try very hard to be accepted by other people. It's time for you to believe in who you are, not what you wear.

Who is your true self:
You like privacy very much because you enjoy spending time with your own thoughts. You like to disappear when you cannot find solutions to your own problems, but you would feel better if you learned to share your thoughts with a person you trust.

Info Bulan Syaaban
